What Distillation Leaves Behind
Botanical waters, or hydrosols, are the water soluble by product of steam distillation, carrying a lighter, more delicate version of a plant's aromatic profile than the essential oil itself. They have long been used in skincare as a gentler alternative to more concentrated oils.
Because they contain no preservative system of their own, microbial stability is the first thing we check, alongside making sure no synthetic additives have been introduced to extend shelf life artificially.
